A clash between two neighbours stirred panic and threat in Mominpura late Tuesday night when one of the men took out his country-made revolver and shot the other. Considering the sensitivity of the situation higher officials had visited the scene. The reason, police said, was petty but past issues between the neighbours ignited the current quarrel. The injured is undergoing treatment in a Government hospital.

According to information, Mohammad Israr Mumtaz Ahmed Ansari (35), a resident of Omkar Nagar, is neighbour of auto-rickshaw driver Mohammad Maqsud abdul Rashid (22). Mohd Israr runs a ‘Ajmeri Chicken Centre’ in Mominpura. On Tuesday at around 10.45 pm, a quarrel over tying a goat erupted between Mohd Israr and Mohd Maqsud.

As per other residents of the area, they both had past issues with each other over property and the current issue on Tuesday only worked as fire in the already tensed situation. The quarrel flared up and Mohd Maqsud took out a country-made revolver and opened fire at Israr. A bullet hit Israr in the right shoulder while two rounds missed the target. Panic gripped the area with the sudden firing and people immediately informed Tehsil police about the incident.

Police immediately swung into action and reached the spot. Meanwhile, Israr was admitted to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment. He still was in critical condition, the doctors had informed. Doctors also confirmed stabbing marks on his back which confirmed that Israr was stabbed in the back. He had undergone an immediate operation.

Taking into account the sensitivity of the area and the situation, Joint Commissioner of Police Anoop Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Pande, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Nirmala Devi visited the scene.

Cops have registered an offence under Sections 307 of the IPC read with Sub Sections 3+25, 27 of the Arms Act and 135 of MPA. Search for the absconding culprit is on.
