Nagpur: Income-Tax sleuths on Friday swooped on Happy Home, a reputed builder and land developer firm of the city. The Income Tax reportedly unearthed tax evasion in crores and also seized incriminating documents. The raids were carried out simultaneously at 10 premises of Happy Home Director Amol Walke. The Group is connected to tourism sector apart from education, consultancy, house keeping and technical services. At least 40 officials were involved in the raids, sources said. The raids went well beyond late night.
A number of layouts and housing schemes of Happy Home dot the city. The IT sleuths were keeping a close watch on the rapidly growing firm and ultimately swooped on Friday. The operation was kept a well-guarded secret. The incriminating documents seized from various places are being scanned for tax evasion. The Happy Home has undertaken or undertaking housing and other schemes at various places including Khapri, Butibori, Saoner, Amgaon, Deoli, Chargaon, Suraburdi etc. The business of the firm has even spread to Chandrapur, Gondia, Yavatmal, Wardha, and other districts apart from Nagpur.
It is pertinent to recall that the Income Tax Department is undertaking country-wide since the past few days raids on the direction of SEBI.
Meanwhile, talking to Nagpur Today, the Director of Amol Walke said that the raids were the outcome of false complaints filed by rival groups. He categorically said that he regularly files IT returns and has paid Rs 27 lakh tax the last year and this year also same amount of tax was paid. The firm Happy Home is a clean and trusted firm with no track record of tax evasion or any discrepancy at any level, asserted Walke.
