Nagpur: In a bizarre incident, self-medication proved fatal for a pharmacist who is supposed to be the most knowledgeable person on side-effects of a drug.

Shailesh Suryakant Raikar (42), resident of Plot No. 39, Vikas Nagar, behind Sai Baba Temple, Wardha Road, was running a medical shop named Yash Pharmacy in Dharampeth area. On September 21 around 8 pm, Shailesh had fever and felt uneasy. Being a chemist, he took an anti-pyretic tablet on his own to reduce the fever. However, something went terribly wrong soon after as rashes erupted all over his body the next day (September 24). Swelling too was noticed. As Shailesh’s health started deteriorating, he was admitted in Sunflower Hospital in New Ramdsapeth the same night around 10.30. However, doctors at the hospital pronounced Shailesh dead at about 1.30 am on Sunday (September 25) during the course of treatment.

Dhantoli PSI Kankal, on the basis of information provided by Brajesh Suryakant Raikar (47) and a report sent by Sitabuldi police, has registered a case of accidental death and investigating the matter from all angles.
