Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Panchpaoli police have managed to crack the case of robbery in which a jeweller was looted with 900 gms of gold, 11 kg silver and Rs 2 lakh cash. And guess what helped the cops led to the clue? It is social media!
The investigating officers extracted the image of culprit from Facebook which was later identified by an eyewitness. The robber, along with his accomplice, had played cricket on the road for four days to study Kumbhare’s movements.

Pachpaoli police team on Wednesday arrested Akash Indurkar (20) and Rahul Nimje (29) for their alleged involvement in decamping with 900 gm gold, 11kg silver and cash Rs two lakhs after thrashing Kumbhare with a cricket bat with which they had been playing during conducting the recce. The two, having faces covered, had also fled away from the place on Kumbhare’s scooter. Police have already recovered the entire gold and silver ornaments stolen apart from the scooter but not the cash from the two.

Zonal DCP Rahul Maknikar, who has announced a reward of Rs15,000 for the Pachpaoli police team, said the collaboration of human intelligence and polices’ network led to the detection. “The latest outcome of Pachpaoli polices’ investigating resulting in the detection of the robbery is an example how working with the masses paves way for success,” he said.

Maknikar was flanked by ACP Balchand Munde and Senior PI Narendra Hiware of Pachpaoli police station. “We had engaged teams from different police stations to detect the case. More than 30 offenders on records having similar modus operandi were quizzed before getting proper clues,” he said.

PI Hiware said the two, Indurkar and Nimje, were produced before the court on Thursday which remanded them to custody till July 10. “Indurkar has an earlier offence of 324 IPC for assault registered at Yashodhara nagar police station. Nimje had none,” he said.

“Indurkar is a painter-turned-robber while Nimje used to work for private catering services before getting involved in the crime,” he said. Hiware’s team comprising head constable Sanjay Wankhede, Sariputra Fulzele, Shailesh Choudhari and others led by Sub-inspector PP Ingle cracked the case.

Police had got the first clue on the following day of the crime when the robbers had abandoned Kumbhare’s scooter at Surya Nagar. Kalamna police had recovered the abandoned scooter after an alert citizen had informed the control room after spotting the two-wheeler. Pachpaoli police, after being alerted by their Kalamna counterparts, undertook a sweeping search at the place where the scooter was abandoned. A green-coloured bag and a scarf were found in the bushes in the vicinity of the place where the two-wheeler was found. The silver, robbed from the bullion trader, was found in the green coloured cloth bag.

Police said the gold was recovered from the residence of Indurkar who was planning to dispose off the valuables gradually as and when someone would be available to sell them.
