Nagpur: The Cyber Police of Nagpur have unearthed a major extortion racket where the four accused allegedly threatened and blackmailed an industrialist in the city and demanded extortion of 1 crore in the name of Union Coal Minister. The four accused threatened the coal trader to defame him through the newspapers, media reports said.

In this case, the police arrested four people including three fake journalists from Nagpur. The accused have been identified as Piyush Purohit, Rashtrabhan Portal journalist Sanjay Baghel, Sanjeet Baghel and Vansh Agarwal alias Mayank Kumar. The court has ordered to keep them in police custody for four days.

The four arrested persons included one from Bangalore, who impersonated as an officer On Special Duty (OSD) to Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi. The accused demanded Rs 1 crore as ransom from the resident of Civil Lines who deals in coal. Those arrested included journalist Piyush Purohit (30), Editor Sanjay Baghel (30) and Executive Editor Sanjheet Baghel from Seoni in Madhya Pradesh and Mayank Kumar from Bangalore, who introduced himself as the OSD.

According to the police, the four so-called journalists Piyush Purohit, Vansh Agarwal, Sanjeet Baghel and Sanjit Baghel of the portal Rashtrabhan.in in Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, were demanding a ransom of Rs. 1 crore from the coal trader. Both Piyush and Baghel were publishing defamatory stories about the industrialist. Hence the trader dragged the Baghel brothers to the civil court. Both were released by the court on the condition of not publishing any news.

According to media reports, the accused were arrested under sections 294, 385, 387, 389, 419, 420, 468, 471, 506-B read with 34 of IPC and section 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act. The FIR mentioned that the accused had written defamatory articles about the complainant’s coal washing business in October and November last year and also circulated them on social media. The businessman then moved the civil court against the first three accused. The court restrained them from publishing anything against him.

Later, the first accused met the complainant’s nephew and demanded ₹1 crore for not publishing articles. When the businessman’s nephew rejected his demand, the accused allegedly threatened him of falsely implicating him and the complainant under offences of coal black marketing. He also physically assaulted the businessman’s nephew. All three accused continued their demand for the ransom for the last couple of months. The accused also lodged several complaints against the industrialist with the coal ministry and various other government departments.

Kumar then called the complainant under the garb of the Minister’s OSD stating that he had received many complaints against the latter. He used to call the complainant’s nephew from mobile numbers 9997777770 and +44 7387602061. After the industrialist’s nephew told him that they had nothing to hide and they had even filed a case in the court, Kumar told them that he will punish the first three accused. He then sent a letter against the three accused to the complainant on minister Joshi’s letterhead which was addressed to DGP Karnataka Praveen Sood.

He told them that to file a similar complaint in Nagpur against the accused, he would need Rs 10 lakh. He also told the industrialist’s nephew to book a room at a five star hotel for bringing CBI officers to the city to settle complaints. After enquiry, when they came to know that no one by that name operated in the Coal Ministry, the industrialist lodged a complaint with the cyber police alleging harassment and extortion.

Nagpur: 10-days have been passed but the smart police of Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minster’s city, seem still groping in dark about the whereabouts of the miscreants who went on rampage at Dabo Restaurant under Sonegaon Police Station.

Nagpur: In a significant development, Ambazari police have registered an FIR against Ashwin Mehadia and his associates for criminal intimidation, threatening, assault and resorting to abusing during 78th AGM of Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce (NVCC) held on 17/12/2022 at Agrasen Bhavan, Ravi Nagar.

Police have booked Ashwin Mehadia, Rajvant Pal Singh Tuli Goldie, Mahesh Kumar Kukreja and Anand Agrawal Mehadia under Sections 294, 506, 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the complainant Dipen Kailashchandra Agrawal (52), resident of 100, Heritage Apartment, Ahinsa Square, Civil Lines, Nagpur, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce was held at Agrasen Bhavan, Ravi Nagar, on December 17, 2022. The complainant was present in the meeting as a member of NVCC. During the meeting, the accused started creating ruckus and indulged in arguments over petty issues. The two accused Ashwin Mehadia and Anand Agrawal Mehadia threatened a person named Mukesh Saglani and his team making video recording of registration of names and stopped the video recording forcibly. Similarly, the accused Rajvant Pal Singh Tuli Goldie and Mahesh Kumar Kukreja reached the counter and threatened and abused the complainant Dipen Agrawal and his associates.

Based on the complaint of Dipen Agrawal, Ambazari PSI Sandeep Shinde booked the four accused Ashwin Mehadia, Rajvant Pal Singh Tuli Goldie, Mahesh Kumar Kukreja and Anand Agrawal Mehadia under Sections 294, 506, 34 of the IPC and probing the matter further.

It may be recalled that the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has ordered appointment of an administrator at the Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce (NVCC). This comes after high drama over the election of Ashwin Mehadia as President, amid charges of irregularities in NVCC, which is dubbed to be the largest chamber of commerce in Vidarbha. An umbrella organization of trade associations across the region, NVCC is a Section 8 company, which means it is a corporate entity but carries out not-for-profit activities.

Mehadia’s election as President and appointment as Director in NVCC had been challenged by a group of former presidents led by Dipen Agrawal. The main contention was that Mehadia was appointed director in the company even though his Director Identification Number (DIN) was debarred. A valid DIN is needed to become a director of any company. However, Mehadia had suppressed the fact, claimed Dipen Agrawal.

Nagpur: The presumptuous use of drones has been a growing concern of law-enforcement agencies and aviation regulators. Owing to its unprecedented risks, even Joint Commissioner of Nagpur Police Aswati Dorje had issued an order under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to ban the flying of drones above several vital establishments till March 31, 2023.

However, some so called influencers were found mocking the prevention order and filming the upcoming Y-shaped flyover connecting Ramjhula-Srimohini Complex-LIC Square. Notably, Y-shape flyover covers Nagpur Railway Station, Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) — which received a bomb threat on Monday –, Sitabuldi Fort and other educational and health institutions.

Now the question arises, isn’t the video shot and uploaded by social media influencers posing unacceptable risks to these establishments? Will Nagpur Police initiate action against such an illegitimate course of action which might prove crucial to the Second Capital of the State?

So called social media influencers had uploaded the above video, which could also be used for recce.

It is pertinent to mention that the drones can be flown with the written permission of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Special Branch, and those violating the order can be booked under section 188 of IPC.

So when Nagpur Today took matter to DCP Special Branch Shweta Khedkar she said, “Directorate General of Civil Aviation(DGCA) gives the permission for flying the drones. As far as Nagpur Police are concerned, we’ve not received any written permission regarding the flying of drones,” she said.
