PCR of Prashant Wasankar and Abhijit Chaudhari extended for two days

The Court granted two more days of PCR extending till August 8, 2014.

wasankarNagpur News.

With so much complaints and such a huge work load, the Investigating Officer who is investigating into the Wasankar Wealth Management case PI Dane requested the Court for an additional PCR of two days for both the accused Prashant Wasankar and Abhijit Chaudhary.

Special Judge (MPIDA) S P Muley had remanded one of the Director of Wasankar Wealth Management Ltd Vinay Jaideo Wasankar to magisterial custody till August 18. Soon after Vinay Wasankar was granted magisterial custody remand (MCR), Crime Branch officers sent him to Central Jail.

Meanwhile, accused Director Mithila Wasankar, wife of Vinay  Wasankar, who had filed an anticipatory bail application, was granted ad-interim bail till August 8. Similarly, court granted ad- interim bail to accused Director Bhagyashree Prashant Wasankar, Kumud Abhijit Choudhary, Devdatta Kardaye and Suhas Khapre.

It could be recalled that on May 9, 2014, the EoW officers had booked Chairman of Wasankar Group Prashant Wasankar, Maithali Vinay Wasankar, Abhijit Jayant Choudhary, Kumud Choudhary, Vinay Wasankar, employees Chandrakant Rai, Kardaye and Khapre on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust.

With the arrest and incarceration of Prashant Wasankar and his brother-in-law Abhijit Chaudhari, the investors have started coming forward to register their complaints to the Economic Offenses Wing of the Crime Branch. The number of complaints against Wasankar Wealth Management has risen to 110.

However, neither the Commissioner of Police K K Pathak nor the Deputy Police Commissioner of Police Sunil Kolhe feel the need for providing additional staff to the Investigating Officer. Presently the IO has to write down the complaints also, investigate the documents, verify facts also, attend to the courts also and perform all such duties alone. With the existing officers and staff, it is very difficult to perform all these duties alone. There is also a need for a financial expert who can look into the books of accounts with a wide experience to identify and bring out the financial frauds committed by Wasankar.

Sources said that recently while speaking to some media, the Commissioner of Police is reported to have said that a delegation of more than 200 investors had come to him and had submitted a request to give bail to Prashant Wasanakar. He is alleged to have said that he is in a dilemma as to what is to be done, while those investors who had complained against Wasankar want him incarcerated and punished for duping them.

One more point that needs to be pondered is that only those people will come forward to complain against Wasankar, whose amount matures at a later date. The date could be as late as 2015 or 2016.

The cops also need additional staff to ascertain exactly how many investors have invested in his ponzi schemes. How much of it was in cash and how much of it was by cheques. One main point is how much of the invested amount is in their book of accounts (IT returns). Once ascertained, the cops need to interrogate Prashant Wasankar where the cash has been stowed or invested.

ntimpactNagpur News.

Bearing the pain and mental agony of torture, beating and harassment by her husband for years, Nalini Wasankar is now a contented woman. She is relieved with the thought that she finally raised her voice against the cruelty she has been subjected to, during the last 24 years of her marriage. She tried hard enough to keep the marriage going but her every effort added more sorrows to her saddening pages of life. Nalini has no words to thank Nagpur Today which made conscious efforts to free her of the state of depression.

The last nail in the coffin came in the form of gory act by Nalini’s husband Ravindra Wasankar. Obsessed by his drinking habit, he got carried away following a dispute between him and Nalini. In a fit of rage he poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze. But the timely intervention by Nidhi and Suraj, the grown up children of the couple, averted the tragedy. Battered and bruised Nalini was rushed to Mayo Hospital.

Post this incident Nalini’s brother Bhushan Satpute happened to visit Nagpur Today where he narrated the entire incident. Eventually Panchpaoli police, who were initially unwilling to register the case, had to take action after Nagpur Today intervened in the case. PI Khobragade rushed his team of policemen to Mayo Hospital for recording statement of Nalini. The statement of Nalini was recorded at 6 pm on July 30. Based on Nalini’s statement the cops booked Ravindra under section 498 and other relevant sections of IPC and launched the probe.

Liquor blew domestic violence

Ravindra Wasankar, 49, resident of Ashok Nagar, near Gurunanak Bhavan, Pachpaoli, Nagpur, had married to Nalini 24 years ago. The couple has two siblings. Daughter Nidhi (22) is engineering student and studies in second year and son Suraj (17) is doing ITI. Ravindra ran a big shop for long time. But the habit of liquor started its perilous effect and Ravindra’s business and life went haywire. Unable to run the shop, he rented it for Rs 13,000 per month. But the liquor had started playing havoc with Wasankar family. The idle mind and empty pockets forced Ravindra perpetrate devilish acts and the first victim was Nalini (41).

…When Women’s Commission intervened

Ravindra started torturing Nalini, both physically and mentally, for bringing money from her parents. The persecution for years together resulted in separation of Ravindra and Nalini in 2006. Subsequently, the devastated Nalini filed a complaint with Maharashtra Women’s Commission (MWC) against Ravindra. The MWC took up the case and put Ravindra on the edge with several hard-word notices. The case in MWC prolonged for almost six years from 2006 to 2011. In 2011, the jolted Ravindra moved an application to MWC with a plea for settlement of the case. He promised no torture of Nalini, no demand of money from her and a happy life in future.   Ravindra asked Nalini to withdraw her complaint from NWC as settlement of case. Nalini too did the same hoping for a better life. Ravindra and Nalini started the life afresh and were a happy family.

Compromise did not last long

But the evil dies hard. In 2012, a drunkard Ravindra came to his own terms and started tormenting Nalini.  Beating and abusing became a brutal routine. Charges of infidelity against Nalini too started cropping up. But Nalini had got trapped in her own folly. She had committed the mistake of trusting Ravindra and his gullible words. She had no choice but tolerate the battering at the heavy hands of Ravindra. But the monster in Ravindra crossed all limits on July 29 night. After beating Nalini brutally, Ravindra doused her with kerosene and tried to set her ablaze. But the timely intervention by Nidhi and Suraj averted the tragedy. In the meanwhile, the battered and bruised Nalini was rushed to Mayo Hospital.

Panchpaoli police sat cross handed

However, Nalini’s torture did not end. Panchpaoli police, who were apprised of the unfortunate episode, reportedly refused register an FIR by saying that the matter is internal and pertains to family court. In a way, police failed to provide justice to Nalini and let Ravindra off the hook. Nidhi and Suraj too could not gather the strength to approach higher police authorities.

Nagpur Today Impact

But a ray of hope emerged in the form of Bhushan Satpute, brother of Nalini. With his instinct, he scanned the “Just Dial” website and found phone number of Nagpur Today. After ringing, Bhushan personally visited office of Nagpur Today on July 30 and narrated the happenings sequence-wise. Taking serious note of police apathy and provide justice to Nalini as well, Nagpur Today contacted Police Inspector Khobragade of Panchpaoli Police Station and prodded him to act in the matter decisively. Bhushan thanked Nagpur Today for prompt action and is hoping for justice to Nalini.

In a dramatic turn of events, a man nabbed and handed over his own brother-in-law (sister’s husband) to police after a prolonged pursuit. The sister of the man had committed suicide to escape horrible torture perpetrated by her husband for more and more money. Moreover, the woman was devastated after learning husband’s affairs with another girl. Since then, the husband was on the run and went absconding. The story unfolded in Pune but ended in Nagpur.

According to information, Sangeeta Thakur (27), sister of Gajendra Pratap Singh, serving in Army, had married to Dharmasingh a few years ago. But soon after marriage, Dharmasingh started tormenting Sangeeta, both mentally and physically, for bringing more and more money from her parents. Sangeeta had informed her parents and brother about the torture at the hands of Dharmasingh. Subsequently, every time after intervention by Gajendra Pratap Singh, life of Sangeeta appeared to be normal and happy. But the pause was temporary. Dharmasingh would come to his own terms and start abusing Sangeeta. The worst turn came when Sangeeta learnt about Dharmasingh’s affairs with another girl. Unable to tolerate the devastating happenings in her life, Sangeeta committed suicide on July 10 at her residence in Pune. As soon as Dharmasingh got a whiff of Sangeeta’s suicide, he went absconding. Pune police searched every possible place to trace Dharmasingh but failed. But Sangeet’s brother Gajendra Pratap Singh did not lose heart and launched a renewed hunt and nabbed Dharmasingh in Nagpur on Tuesday (August 5) but not before events of twists and turns.

Talking to Nagpur Today, Gajendra Singh said, “My sister committed suicide on July 10 to escape terrible torture at the hands of Dharmasingh. The devil had affairs with another girl long before marriage with my sister Sangeeta. I had given Dharmasingh Rs 5 lakh in cash, gold jewellery worth Rs 2.50 lakh, and a motorcycle during the marriage so that my sister could live happily. But soon after marriage, Sangeeta frequently phoned me informing ill-treatment at the hands of in-laws and Dharmasingh. She also told me about her husband’s affairs with another girl whose photo was available on Dharmasingh’s Facebook. After looking the picture of the girl, Sangeeta, who was already suffering a lot, was devastated and took the extreme step of ending her life,” said Gajendra with rage writ large on his face.

Gajendra further said, “I received the information about Sangeeta’s suicide through Army officials as at that time I was on duty at LoC. I immediately rushed to Pune and after gathering information about the events, embarked on ‘mission’ to catch the ‘killer’ Dharmasingh. When I got a tip-off that Dharmasingh was in Nagpur with the girl, I and four my friends immediately came to Nagpur. But the task was not so easy in a big city like Nagpur. Without resting for a moment, we scanned every corner of the city and finally tasted success on Tuesday (August 5). Dharmasingh was caught by us and handed over to police,” said Gajendra.

He however was critical of Khaparkheda police, who he said, were non-cooperative and also tried to shirk their responsibility when told about the likely whereabouts of Dharmasingh.

Nagpur Today also talked to Dharmasingh but he feigned innocence. His trembling words and guilty face told a different tale but the truth.
Anyway, Gajendra maintained the everlasting bond the brother-sister cherish just before Rakshabandhan festivity to be celebrated on August 10.

In a major development, the absconding Director of Raviraj Investment and Strategies Company Rajesh Joshi was arrested at 12.30 in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday (August 7) by Crime Branch of Nagpur Police. The arrest was effected on the basis of a complaint lodged by Vijay Wamanrao Marathe, resident of Vivekanand Nagar, near Saibaba Mandir, Wardha Road, Nagpur with Dhantoli Police Station on 8.7.2014. Subsequently, Dhantoli police had registered an offence under Sections 420, 406, 120(B) of the IPC and Sub-Section 3 of Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors Act (MPID Act) against Directors of Raviraj Investment and Strategies Company namely Rajesh Joshi, Radha Rajesh Joshi, and others. Rajesh Joshi was absconding since then and the Crime Branch of Nagpur Police had launched a hunt to trace him.

It may be recalled, Raviraj Group allegedly promised astronomical returns in fanciful but fraudulent investments. Hundreds of investors have reportedly been lured and duped. The investors have parked their money in the range of Rs 100-150 crore. The Group, following the sly steps of scamster groups – Shreesurya and Wasankar and many other such scandalous companies — allegedly defaulted on many payments and thus left the investors high and dry.

The scamster firm, Raviraj Group, was being managed by a couple Rajesh and Radha Joshi. In fact, both Rajesh and Radha, Suresh Gangadhar Joshi, Vyankatesh Acharya and Girish Deshpande run 30 companies like Raviraj Investment and Strategy Company, M/s Raviraj Infrastructure, Raviraj Computech, Raviraj Capital Solutions, and Raviraj Centre for Social Reconstruction. However, the investment deposits were sought in the name of Raviraj Investment and Strategies Company.

According to sources, the highly-educated Rajesh Joshi opened the Raviraj Investment and Strategies Company four years ago in Vivekanand Nagar. Sources further said that Rajesh Joshi lured the investors, mostly senior citizens, with a promise of unbelievable returns in two and half years. The trickster reportedly looted more than 400 investors of their deposits to the tune of Rs 100-150 crore.

rviraj-group-600x271
The investment scam got exposed when some of the investors, who were dashing to the office of the Group to recover the promised money for the past many days, crashed into Dhantoli police station with a common complaint. The investors submitted an application mentioning that the Group accepted deposits by assuring to double the amount in two-and-a-half years. It was smooth sailing in the initial days, but the company started showing its true colours later and defaulted. Rajesh Joshi and his family reportedly fled the city with a big, big lock at the company.

Initially, the investigation into the alleged scam was being carried out by Dhantoli Police but with the enormity of amount involved, the probe was handed over to Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch. According to the investors and sources, the company has trapped around 400 persons. The minimum deposit accepted was pegged at Rs 5 lakh but some “greedy” had parked as much as Rs 2-3 crore. The investors said Joshi and his staff always maintained that the funds collected from them were invested into stock markets, infrastructure and mining businesses but they were never briefed about the businesses, nor were they sent any documents such as an annual report pertaining to the Raviraj Group.
